The Inventory of Jonas Bjerre

The Inventory Series is an ever-growing stockhouse of information and inspiration. An appreciation of all things creative. A place where creative professionals share resources for discovery and inspiration: the tools of creation.

This is Jonas Bjerre's Inventory:

Lilito - "Say"

Lilito is a young girl from Pennsylvania who has been writing me over the years on instagram, at first sending me pictures of strange little creatures she made out of play dough. Recently though, she sent me a link to the video for her first song, called "Say!"

As much as I liked her little creatures, I never actually wrote her back, and I almost didn't click the link, as I had no expectations, but I did click and I was blown away by its musicality. She has her very own quirky and brilliant approach to song writing, with predominantly classic rock instrumentation, but taking it somewhere very beautiful and unique. She writes and plays everything herself, except for the drums which are taken care of by her brother. I just fell in love with this song, "Say!" I look very much forward to her debut album, whenever it comes out.

The Beatles - Yellow Submarine

My dad was always a huge Beatles fan, and so I grew up with their music. I enjoyed especially their more experimental albums such as Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. But the thing that really caught me was the animated film, Yellow Submarine, featuring their music. Looking back, I think experiencing that combination of animation and music, was something that had a profound impact on me. Very early on, with Mew, I started making animated backdrop visuals for our shows, which helped set us apart from other indie band live experiences, and I think Yellow Submarine started all that.
